As the season of vacations and sunny beach days approaches, a perfect storm of leisure-thwarting events are poised to ruin everyone’s plans. Between high gas prices, airport security mayhem, airlines going under and a raft of canceled flights, even the most organized and experienced of travelers cannot, it seems, escape the chaos. At the same time, the price of hotels, car rentals, flights, concerts, eating out and just about everything else appears to be steadily marching skyward. Meanwhile, loyalty programs, airline points and the other go-to tricks of the travel-savvy are getting more devalued by the day. If you don’t have infinite money or infinite patience, should you just give up and enjoy the staycation? “No,” says Brian Kelly, also known as The Points Guy. On a new episode of the Everybody’s Business podcast from Bloomberg Businessweek, he joins hosts Stacey Vanek Smith and Max Chafkin, as well as Bloomberg News travel czar Nikki Ekstein, to tell us why. (Although you might want to consult Bloomberg Pursuits’ ultimate guide to travel insurance first.) Listen and subscribe on Apple, Spotify, iHeart and the Bloomberg Terminal. More Weekend Reads
